How To Host A Website

There are dozens of ways you can gain online visibility for your business, and some of them are even free.  That might sound attractive if you’re a local business owner, building your business from the ground, up.  But there’s a world of difference in these various methods to host a website.  “Free” might be attractive, but it’s not always the best choice. 

If you’re running a small, local business you may not need a full-blown website with a shopping cart, an opt-in form and a few dozen contact forms.  You may only need a page or two of content.  Just enough to establish a web presence so you show up in local searches, but not so much that you need to hire designers and content providers to get the site up and running.

Shared Networks

Consider joining a local network site.  Angie’s List is a good example, but you’ll see network sites for landscaping companies, plumbers, organic farming, and all sorts of industries.  These sites typically allow you a page of content that you can use however you see fit.  Sometimes there’s a small fee involved, but it’s minimal.  Many of these sites are free. Hello, and welcome to the Local Internet Marketing Resource!  This is the first post but certainly won’t be the last.  I have been letting many people, including students, know that this blog was coming.  It took longer than expected with my schedule and we are far from done, but as of this moment we are launching officially and you will be able to come back here regularly to look for new content. Onward and upward! 

As some of you may know I have spent many years, decades in fact, studying, using, and even developing technology solutions, yet the frustrations preventing me from successfully using mobile and internet technology to market my business was almost more than I could bear and I am a guy who started writing software at the age of 10.  I grew up in a family that all owned their own businesses and this was our livelihood.  When something isn’t going right in a business that your loved ones depend on the stress can be unbearable and I have experienced that stress firsthand and can relate to some of the fear and frustration that many of you are now facing. 

After all my degrees in electronics and computers I couldn’t believe I was having difficulty using technology in any capacity let alone to marketing my business.  It was very scary to realize all the traditional marketing media that I grew up with was dead and I really didn’t understand where it was going.  I knew I had to re-focus my technological and business skills to survive.  Not grow, but just to survive and focus I did.
